She was the subject of the 1999 documentary film entitled His Eye is on the Sparrow and a 1997 Goldenseal magazine article, “Hand-Clapping and Hallelujahs: A Visit with Ethel Caffie-Austin.” She founded the Black Sacred Music Festival at West Virginia State University in Institute, and has several recordings and an instructional videotape to her credit. You have to be able to read some to use it well though. I then bought the DVD version for myself when I found a good price on eBay. I purchased the original VHS set, but then ended up giving them to a student. Ethel teaches several good songs on the video, and gives you some licks as well. Ethel Caffie-Austin has put together two of the best videos on playing Black Gospel music that I know of to date.
